Breaking Dawn Drawn Out

Breaking Dawn Drawn Out

Well incase you have been living under a rock for since Twilight hit the shelves you will know that Harry has faced competition for most bankable franchise. The latest tidbit of news will most likely cause a stir. We already know Breaking Dawn, the last in the ‘saga’ has been split in two films, but now we know that 363 days will separate the release dates.

That’s right, Summit Entertainment have announced that it will be year, give or take, that separates the beginning of the end and Twilight’s conclusion. So the question is; why?

Firstly from the perspective of production, splitting one story into two film is no easy task, especially when you throw the outlandish nature in which our girl v twinkles v fur ball love triangle go in Stephanie Meyer’s finale. No doubt there will a serious amount of negotiation in editing to create two separate films that can [a] stand alone and [b] gel to form the finale that Twilightee's will spend, spend, spend for.

Secondly, funnily enough picks up on the same reasoning. Summit's perspective will be a release date set in the autumn will miss the summer bonanza that is shaping up 2012. At this moment in time the list reads: The Avengers, Untitled Batman Project, Spiderman Reboot, Madagascar 3, Men In Black 3, Star Trek 2, Ice Age 4. That is a lot established franchises to contend with. By staying in the territory of autumn not only will the date reflect the nocturnal mood of the films as one studio executive stated, but it will also face less competition in the battle for box office receipts.

Whatever the reason the fact remains that Bill Condon will face the debate where to say cut and begin again without leaving the fans feeling cheated by either film is preferable. Not one to divulge details on the content to the final film [if your desperate google it] Condon also faces the task of keeping the franchise early teen friendly and escape the dreaded R rating that would see Summit spiraling to the editing booth.
