Producer Talks Godzilla Reboot

Back in April it was announced that Universal Studio's and Legendary Pictures had united to score the rights to Godzilla, the prized asset of Toho. Immediately they vowed not to entertain the ideas formed by Sony and director Roland Emmerich in the 1998 instalment Godzilla. No information regarding the direction of the New Godzilla project has been released since, until now. Producer Brian Rogers from Universal has shined a light on the upcoming movie talking with Blogspot Zennie62.

Very much like the early talk from both parties involved, Rogers establishes a firm focus for the feature to be respectful to the origins of the Godzilla character. "Legendary Pictures seemed to be the perfect home. All the conversations we had with them made it clear that they wanted to pay homage to the traditional character.

The direction of the project? Well, of course details were not released this early in to production. After all, Rogers claims that they are "aiming for 2012" release for the film, if it can be done in said time-scale, it may be a longer wait that anticipated.

Rogers did reveal that the film would feature a "complete new reboot of the character", complying with the traditions but to "bring it to a new audience" in the 21st Century. Rogers' specifically mentions another Legendary Pictures project as a source for inspiration; Christopher Nolan's Batman. What is key to the rejuvenation of this franchise in Rogers' mind is to keep within tradition but to realise the potential to add elements that make the character stronger.

Furthermore, when questioned whether Godzilla would be a lone wolf in the city once more, Rogers' stated that "Other monster, or monsters" are set to appear alongside the main attraction. No doubt to delight of fan's Rogers' fails to pull the punches against Sony as he continues the onslaught to their 'take' on Godzilla by arguing that having Godzilla squaring off against the US army was not "in the spirit of the character".
More as it arrives.
